About me

Hi My name is Shannon Kingston! I’m from Long Island, NY and grew up in a Dawson’s Creek style town called Port Washington.   I attended Buckley Country Day school till 8th Grade and then ventured into Public School which did not go over so well for the first two years.  The last two years were amazing though.  I played on my team and trained at the local Port Washington Tennis academy.

Although I was a smart kid, I just wasn’t interested in my subjects.  I was more concerned with what my favorite boy was thinking about me and where my bullies were in proximity to him lol.  Let just say I was very distracted.  I wish I had been doing yoga then, I could have used it!

In 2000, I was admitted to Arizona State University and I fell in love.  It was like going to school in a resort.  Perfect for someone who wasn’t interested in her subjects.  I wish I was, life would have been so much easier.

While at ASU, I stumbled upon an acting elective and signed up.  It was like the clouds had been lifted from above me.  I finally was passionate about something, finally had a purpose and something to work towards.  From the moment I decided to become a theatre major at the Herberger College of Fine arts, I became extremely devoted, it was full speed ahead.  I did everything I could, including summers at NYU Tisch’s Stone Street Studios.  I did local commercials in AZ and got an agent in Los Angeles.  I was devoted to my studies and became more aware of my appearance as that now became my product (Terrible Idea) lol.   But it did keep me on the straight and narrow for a long time and kept me occupied and passionate.  I was excited to start my career in Los Angeles so I braved the Arizona heat for a summer, graduated early, and drove across the desert to LA to start a whole new life.

LA is a crazy city and the entertainment business is even crazier.  I began going out a lot, going to acting classes, and auditioning all the time.  I started auditioning before I even knew what I was doing and heard from casting directors I was “green” all the time.  But as time went on I got better and better and started booking a lot of cool things.  I was on MadTV, Passions, Drake and Josh, NipTuck a Hallmark Movie, etc etc.  It was fun. But the highs were really high and the lows were really low.  Waiting to audition and waiting to book was torture to my soul.  There is no control over one’s career in LA you feel like you’re flying into the wind and sticking to whatever tree you land on.

Thank goodness, just as my flame and passion were about to run out, on a last attempt to do student films, I met a man.  A man who would change my life.  I met Luke on a date after meeting him on Facebook and we were together ever since.  Luke’s father was Stan Lee’s business partner (creator of almost every Marvel character) and he also owned the rights to the Old Marvel Character Red Sonja.

Luke ran the comic book business for him and also wrote a lot of the books.  When I met him, he was in law school as well.  We got married only a year and a half after meeting.  For years, Red Sonja was Luke’s thing.  His business.  It wasn’t until I had a baby and I realized I needed to have a different kind of career, that I started to take charge of Red Sonja LLC.  I went on a licensing spree and became her licensing agent and VP of Merchandising.

While running social media for Red Sonja, I developed a knack for content creation, and decided to start my own page to share my life . . . or whatever I felt like sharing.  What ended up happening was that I started posting beauty tips all the time.  Mostly secrets from my grandmother, who was an aesthetician.  She used to do facials for Elizabeth Taylor back in the day in Florida.  She is 97 today with barely a wrinkle.   I realized how many of my posts were about taking care of my skin, because that is what I do naturally.  Then one day I got a random message.  I made a Youtube video a few years back and posted it, I shared it with my friends and it only had 500 views,  but my friends LOVED it! They shared it among themselves and that was it.  Frank, from TruTV contacted me and said they wanted to air my facercises video on their show called “Greatest Ever, Target Certain Areas”.  It gave me the inspiration to make this blog and share more it with people.  I love that I’m finally in a place, now that I’ve removed myself from acting, where I can share with people and help people, rather than have a competitive spirit, holding onto secrets and trying to get ahead for myself.  I would love for all women to feel good about themselves and feel beautiful all the time.  What I would love more than anything is for young girls to start using my tips early so they don’t need to turn to procedures one day like Botox, fillers or surgery.  Our character, Red Sonja, is all about Female Power.  I spent my life competing against women and feeling that energy.  Enough! Women need to lift each other up and support each other!
